Sunflower seeds: EU lowers crop forecasts for Romania and Bulgaria

SOFIA/DALIAN. The European Commission has again lowered its crop forecast for the EU sunflower seed production in 2025 in its July report. Meanwhile, EU imports rose by almost 13% in the first four weeks of the 2025/2026 season.

Downward revision of crop data

With each report from the EU Commission, the forecast for the 2025 crop volume shrinks a little further. As expected, the estimates for Romania and Bulgaria have been revised downwards compared to previous expectations. At the same time, however, the outlook in Hungary and France has improved, and significantly better crops are still expected in the main producing countries compared to last year.
