Sunflower seeds: global crop to exceed previous record by 12%

WASHINGTON, D.C./KYIV. The latest WASDE report has once again raised its forecast for the global sunflower seed crop in 2026/2027. In Ukraine, yields are significantly higher than last year. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy and Environment has drastically increased the minimum export price for sunflower seeds, amongst other commodities.

Record growth

As if a record crop weren’t already all but guaranteed, the USDA, in its September edition of the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates Report (WASDE report), the USDA has once again raised its forecast for the global sunflower seed crop in 2026/2027 by a good 1 million mt compared with the August report – from 62.618 million mt to 63.650 million mt.
