SOFIA. The European Association Coceral has issued first production estimates for cereals and oilseeds in 2020. Total sunflower seed production is estimated at...

...10.74 million metric tonnes in Europe, down 1.6% on last year. While acreage is expected to rise to 4.81 million hectares, yields should decline to 22.3 metric tonnes per hectare. last year, yields ranged at 22.8 metric tonnes per hectare.

Lower yield are, in particular, expected to offset the rise in acreage in Bulgaria and in Romania. By contrast, yields are set to climb and acreage to decline in Hungary. Prospects are much more encouraging in France, however, since an increase in acreage and in yields is set to prompt a 7.4% rise in production.
