SOFIA. After last year’s good crop UkrAgroConsult is once more expecting an increase in production for Bulgaria this year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, 1.84 million mt were harvested last year. A rise of 7.5% due to increased acreage and record-breaking yields.

It is still hot and dry in Bulgaria, but rain is expected for the weekend, which should put an end to the drought and supply the plants with much needed water.

Market analyst Oil World assumes that the production in the Ukraine, Russia and Moldova will probably fall short of 2016. Especially in the Ukraine, the plants are currently struggling with the drought. Ukrainian traders, however, do not reckon with a shortage of supply. As of 1 June 2017 supplies were estimated at 2.08 million mt, about 50% more than last year at this time.

The price

Due to the overall still very good crop prospects and the carry over stocks, initial offers of 380-385 USD/mt CPT from Ukrainian processing facilities are clearly below last year's level (380-410 USD/mt CPT).

Bulgarian suppliers are again offering black sunflower seeds, in shell, 96% at a slightly lower price of 314 EUR/mt CPT Varna. New and old crop bakery kernels are maintaining the same price level as last week at 600 EUR/mt FCA and 630 EUR/mt FCA respectively.
