Sunflower seeds: outlook remains positive

SOFIA/BRUSSELS. The heatwave at the end of June took its toll on growing regions in Western Europe. In the East, however, conditions remained more moderate. The weather in July and August will shape the markets.

July and August are crucial

The first major heatwave in Europe was barely two weeks ago, and the next one is already on the horizon. Market players report that the sunflower seed crop in France has suffered damage due to the high temperatures. In Eastern Europe, however, temperatures were comparatively moderate, meaning that production prospects for the 2026/27 season remain positive for the time being. How yields ultimately develop, however, depends in particular on weather conditions up to the end of July and into August.
