Sunflower seeds: Price corrections will come

SOFIA/KIEV. Market players reckon that the prices for Eastern European bakery kernels will decline again in January. Production is currently being assessed.

 

Crop updates for Russia and the Ukraine

According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, acreage reached a record 8.1 million hectares in 2018. If yields remain average at 1.4 mt/ha, production could reach 11.34 million mt. Even 12 million mt would be possible.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, 13.2 million mt of sunflower seeds have been harvested on 5.9 million ha (97% of the total area) so far. Market observers reckon that ca, 15 million mt of sunflower seeds will be processed in the Ukraine, thereby producing ca. 6.5 mil
