Sunflower seeds: prices are slowly easing

SOFIA/KYIV. Sunflower seed producers in Ukraine are still busy with the harvest. So far, yields are significantly lower than last year. In Bulgaria, prices for hulled sunflower kernels have stabilised for the time being.

Ukraine cracks the 10 million mt mark

Even at the end of November, the sunflower seed harvest in Ukraine is still not complete. At 4.855 million hectares, 97% of the area has now been harvested and the preliminary result is 10.075 million mt, with an average yield of 2.08 mt/ha. This time last year, the harvest was 99% complete, around 5 million hectares had been harvested and with an average yield of 2.38 mt/ha, the provisional result was 11.93 million mt.

This means that sunflower seed production in Ukraine is still below expectations of around 12.5 millio
