Sunflower seeds: rainfall eases market situation

SOFIA/KYIV. Rainfall brought some relief to European growing regions after a period of hot, dry weather. This is good news for the sunflower seed crop. The EU imported around 20% less sunflower seeds from third countries in the 2024/2025 season.

Crops are developing well

A rain front coming from northern Europe could bring much-needed showers to parts of Ukraine this week, although this could delay the harvest of early varieties. Despite the moisture deficit in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine, the sunflower seed crop is currently still in good condition overall. However, in parts of the country, the leaves are turning yellowish due to lower soil moisture. The plants are also currently in good condition in terms of quality.
