Sunflower seeds: restrictions on Bulgarian exports possible

SOFIA/DALIAN. The shortage of sunflower seeds is prompting experts to consider restrictions on exports. In Ukraine, crop prospects are steadily deteriorating.

No more than 10 million mt

The forecasts for the Ukrainian sunflower seed crop are becoming more sobering by the week. So far, 4.24 million mt have been harvested, which is 82% of the area sown. Production stands at 7.838 million mt. Not only are yields significantly lower than last year (2.06 mt/ha), but there are also increasing reports of deteriorating oilseed quality.
