BUENOS AIRES/KYIV. Analysts have again revised the crop estimate for sunflower seeds upwards, depsite a correction having already occurred at the start of April. Sowing has picked up again in Ukraine after a slow start.

Oil World anticipates 4.7 million mt

In April, the USDA and the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange lifted the 2025 sunflower seed production estimates for Argentina to 4.2 million mt and 4.5 million mt respectively. These figures are clearly up on last year. Oil World also issued an even more upbeat crop estimate of 4.7 million mt last week thereby claiming a 25-year record. Yet, USDA data shows that production reached an even higher 5.019 million mt in 2022/2023. The 2025/2026 crop is still, however, on track to become the second largest in 25 years.
