Sunflower seeds: revised estimates in Ukraine

SOFIA/KYIV. While sunflower seed production is expected to range lower in Kazakhstan due to adverse weather conditions, the USDA has lifted the estimates for Ukraine by 500,000 mt.

Heated debates in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has introduced a 20% export tariff for sunflower seeds to protect the local oil industry. Extensive carry-in supplies are, however, giving rise to heated debates over the possibility of suspending the tariff or introducing an export quota for these additional volumes. Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture, however, reports that harvesting is still underway and that adverse weather conditions are impacting yields considerably.
