Sunflower seeds: shipments from Argentina up 23-fold

SOFIA/BUENOS AIRES. The additional shipments from Argentina have caused EU sunflower seed imports to rise by more than 20% year-on-year in a very short space of time. However, the still high prices for hulled sunflower kernels are dampening demand.

From 1 July 2025 to 22 March 2026, EU countries imported a total of 550,708 mt of sunflower seeds from third countries, representing an increase of 21.2% compared with the same period last year. The import value rose by 9.2% to EUR 504.187 million during this period. The average import price this year stands at EUR 0.92/kg (-9.8% year-on-year).
