Sunflower seeds: Suppliers have free capacities again

SOFIA. Now that the harvest has been completed and the first wave of enquiries has been dealt with, the Bulgarian sunflower seed market is getting quieter again. This is also reflected in the prices on offers.

 

Contradictory crop estimates

The farmgate prices for black in shells, 96% purity, remain firm at 284 EUR/mt CPT Varna. Bakery kernels are also stabilising at a lower level, with large suppliers able to ship from as little as 610 EUR/mt DDP Germany. Trading activities are limited, and demand is rather low.

The harvest has been completed. According to reports from the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture, around 1.88 million mt of sunflower seeds were harvested on 731,900 ha in 2018. Other market observers, however, estimate production at 2.00-2.40
