SOFIA/KYIV. The 2025/26 season is steadily progressing. With every month that passes before the new crop becomes available in the summer, the already scarce stocks are dwindling further.

Profitability is in doubt

According to reports, Ukrainian processors are now only sourcing relatively small quantities of sunflower seeds per week, and companies that did not stock up generously on raw materials in March and April will switch to processing rapeseed and soybeans in the coming months. Some, according to experts, may even cease operations entirely, as it is more economical, given the low margins, to simply bear the ongoing fixed costs during a shutdown rather than produce at a loss.
