Sunflower seeds: Ukrainian farmers demand higher prices

KYIV/SOFIA. Ukrainian sunflower seed farmers want to further increase the raw material prices, while the market trend should actually indicate otherwise. Bulgaria's imports reflect the high demand from oil mills.

Higher prices despite sluggish demand

Crop estimates for Ukrainian sunflower seed production in 2024/2025 range between 12.5 million mt and 13 million mt, depending on the source, but in any case this would be a significant year-on-year decline of around 16-18%. Growers have held back some of their produce in order to obtain higher prices for their raw materials. Many large EU producing countries were also able to harvest significantly fewer sunflower seeds this year due to smaller acreages or lower yields and were therefore dependent on additional supplies from cou
