Sunflower seeds: upcoming shipments weigh on prices

SOFIA/BUENOS AIRES. Prices on the Bulgarian sunflower seed market are easing in view of upcoming shipments from South America. Experts predict EU imports to almost double this season.

Additional shipments

Unfavourable weather conditions have had a massive impact on sunflower seed production in many EU countries in recent years. To partially offset the deficit, Bulgarian companies have now purchased larger quantities in Argentina. If all announced shipments arrive, Bulgaria could receive around 400,000 mt of sunflower seeds from the South American country in the coming months. Romania also expects some shipments from there. In total, the additional shipments to the EU could amount to around 500,000 mt.
