Sunflower seeds: updated crop estimates

SOFIA/KYIV. The European Commission has once again reduced its estimate for EU sunflower seed production in 2025 in its latest report. The USDA expects a smaller crop in Russia, and Ukraine is unlikely to match last year's results.

In the last week before the Christmas holidays, the European Commission published updated crop estimates for the EU sunflower seed crop in 2025. At 8.362 million mt, production was reduced by a further 1.8% compared to the previous report, bringing it to a similar level to the equally sobering result of the 2024 harvest (8.326 million mt). Year-on-year, crops in major producing countries such as Hungary (-6.2%), Bulgaria (-7.5%), France (-3.0%) and Spain (-7.9%) are expected to be significantly lower once again, which in turn was offse
