Sunflower seeds: further upward revision

WASHINGTON, D.C./SOFIA. For the third time in a row, the global sunflower seed production forecast for 2026 has been revised upwards. The weather in July will be crucial for crop development in Europe.

Forecasts remain optimistic overall

In its recently published WASDE report (World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates), the US Department of Agriculture has revised its forecast for global sunflower seed production in 2026 upwards for the third time in a row. At 62.657 million mt, the estimate is around 1% higher than in June, while the year-on-year increase would amount to as much as 13.3%.

In particular, estimates for the Russian sunflower seed crop have been raised by 1.2 million mt compared with the June report, meaning the total of 20.7 million mt
