Sunflower seeds: USDA maintains record crop forecast

WASHINGTON, D.C./KYIV. In its latest WASDE report, the USDA has maintained its positive crop forecasts for the 2026/27 season. According to market players, there could be shifts in the sunflower oil market. Between July and mid-August, EU countries once again recorded high levels of imports from Argentina.

Global crop expected to reach 62.6 million mt

In its recently published WASDE report (World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates), the US Department of Agriculture has revised its forecast for global sunflower seed production in 2026 downwards for the first time – albeit only slightly. At 62.618 million mt, the estimate is around 0.1% lower than in July, with year-on-year growth expected to reach 13.8%.
