Sunflower seeds: low yields in southern Ukraine

KYIV/DALIAN. In Ukraine, growers in the first few regions have begun harvesting sunflower seeds. So far, yields in the southern growing regions have been rather disappointing. Bulgaria is starting the new season with comparatively high prices.

Overall optimistic

In the middle of last week, Ukrainian sunflower seed farmers began bringing in the crop from the fields. The relevant growing regions of Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk are located in the south of the country. It has been very dry here recently and experts had expected lower yields, which has been confirmed so far. Overall, however, it can be assumed that Ukrainian sunflower seed production will be above last year's level.
