Almonds: Curious price developments in Spain

MADRID. Production has been good in Spain this season and imports from the USA went well. Curiously, however, the prices are still above last year's level.

Temporary price decline

The prices for Spanish Valencia almonds have declined by 5 cents/kg. Contrary to this, the prices for Largueta and Marcona almonds have remained relatively firm over the last few weeks.

Largueta almonds are trading in a narrow range, while the prices for conventional Valencia almonds are on the rise. The prices on offer still range well above last year's level. How long this situation may last mainly depends on the weather and the outlook for this year’s crop.
