Almonds: German buyers pounce

MADRID. While Spanish almond farmers lament low prices, this has resulted in significant export increases to Germany over the first nine months of this year.

 

Import potential of 90,000–95,000 mt

German almond importers are using the favourable price levels of the current season to stock up on Californian and Spanish almonds. Germany has imported 54,500 mt of US almonds between January and September 2017, almost 10% more than over the same period last year (Q1–Q3 2016: 49,700 mt). Imports from Spain have increased by 10% over last year, to 9,890 mt. Conversely, imports from countries such as the Netherlands and Italy have fallen.
