Production glut expected

According to the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture am in shell crop of 223,400 mt may be expected – a 15.4% year-on-year increase. In cooperation with the University of California scientists in Spain are intending to further improve yields with better irrigation systems.

The National Bureau of Nuts estimates the hulled almond production in 2017 at 56,210 mt, an increase of about 23% as compared to 2016. There are, however, reports stating that adverse weather conditions in some growing regions may have had an impact. The extent of the damage is still, however, to be declared.

Due to the expected bumper crop in California global production may increase to 1.27 M mt this year – 7% more than last year. The harvest may, however, be delayed by a couple of days in California.
