Blue poppy seeds: 2019 crop has record potential

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. Sowing started last week in the Czech Republic. Market players are highly optimistic.

More than 50,000 mt expected

Traders are optimistic and expect acreage to amount to well over 40,000 ha for 2019/20. The high price level has rendered poppy seeds an attractive product this year.

As long as the weather plays along and it does not get frosty again over the next few weeks, the poppy market can look forward to a good year. Market players are even reckoning with a record crop. To achieve this, production would have to reach at least 50,000 mt.
