Peanuts: quality is decisive

Risk of farmers selling off supplies in India
Cultivators in Gujarat are rushing to the market with massive daily arrivals of peanuts, reaching over 500,000 to 700,000 bags a day, even though this year's total crop is lower than last year. Surprisingly, the prices have not faced any attrition because traders and commercial buyers are calmly purchasing all incoming stock with strong confidence, driven by growing consumer demand for peanut products.
Advice for farmers is not rush to sell their volumes within the first month or two as they might lose out when supplies dry up later. This is difficult for some as they are worried that prices might drop. Export prices have been fixed since 20 October. Although arrivals will gain momentum, demand will surge for superior quality nuts.

Quality gaining importance
Internationally, the picture is stagnant. Brazil anticipates a record-breaking crop. Argentina continues to drive strong export demand in Europe and Asia. US farmgate prices remain under slight pressure due to high carryover stocks. Importing nations are increasingly focusing on strict quality sorting and aflatoxin compliance to meet rising consumer standards for peanut butter and snacks worldwide. Buyers in China, Indonesia and Vietnam are showing steady demand.
