Blue poppy seeds: Below average yields

CHRUDIM. The harvest has started with a shock for growers in the South of the Czech Republic as yields fall short of expectations. Hopes are that the situation will improve as the harvest progresses.

 

Disappointing start to the harvest

Rain had initially prompted market player to expect good yields. With the harvest having started in the South, however, it is becoming apparent that yields are way below expectations. Yields in some regions cannot do not even reach 500 kg/ha. In good years yields are normally as high as 800-1,000 kg/ha. There currently is, however, no need for concern as yields may be higher in other regions.
