Blue poppy seeds: New crop prices starting at 1.60 EUR/kg

CHRUDIM. The Czech poppy seed market is gearing up for what might be a bumper crop due to an increase in acreage. The shrinking export figures are attributable to this season's high price level.

 

Farmers raise prices

With unofficial crop estimates exceeding 30,000 mt, Czech poppy seed farmers are confident of realising a bumper crop; however, this does not prevent them from asking higher raw seed prices for prompt deliveries. Last year's disenchanting production has led to a reduction in the availability of high-quality goods. Traders have to give in somewhat, even with demand being low.
