CHRUDIM. In about two to four weeks the Czech poppy seed farmers will start sowing. Experts assume that more than 40,000 ha will be sown this year.

Everything depends on the weather
In the middle/end of March the Czech farmers start sowing for the 2019 crop. With a potential increase in the cultivation area to 40,000-50,000 ha, an average yield per hectare would be sufficient to triple the poppy seed production compared to the previous year. Market participants are placing their hopes above all on the weather. The chance that unfavourable weather conditions will noticeably reduce the harvest for the third year in a row despite average cultivation areas should be small.
