OLOMOUC. Czech poppy farmers are said to have harvested almost 15% more poppy seeds this year. However, further price reductions are not expected during the course of the season. EU poppy seed exports have fallen by 10% since the beginning of the season.

Official crop estimates published

The Czech Statistical Office published its latest crop report on 24 October. As expected, poppy seed production has increased compared to last year. A total of around 31,246 mt of poppy seeds are said to have been harvested in the Czech Republic this year, which corresponds to an increase of 14.7% compared to last year.

Market players nevertheless reckon that blue poppy seed prices have already reached their low point for the current season and will now gradually rise. Czech blue poppy seeds with a morphine content of <20
