Blue poppy seeds: The drought persists

CHRUDIM. Since the middle of March, it has not rained properly in the Czech growing regions. For the coming week, weather services in the poppy seed cultivation areas are forecasting light rain showers, but after that it will be dry again.

Is a new beginning possible?
Market participants had reported that the Czech poppy seed farmers had sown 30,000-35,000 ha, a much smaller area for the 2019 crop than had been expected. Due to the drought of the last few weeks, there is a danger that the sowing will not work out. In this case, farmers could try their luck again, ploughing over the fields and replanting. But then, if necessary, with other crops. The market is now eagerly awaiting further developments in the growing regions.
