CHRUDIM. Buyers are urged to caution when purchasing blue poppy seeds from the Czech Republic. Particular attention should be paid to cheap offers.

High cadmium levels

The problem is cadmium. An unusually high number of seeds in the Czech Republic are contaminated with this heavy metal, the levels being so high that they are unattractive for buyers in Austria and Germany. Offers below the market price of 2.29 EUR/kg FCA Czech Republic should be checked for cadmium accordingly and buyers are urged to pay special attention to offers from Poland. Suppliers in Poland are especially susceptible to offering cheap seeds purchased in the Czech Republic, which they are selling for as little as 2,00 EUR/kg
