Blue poppy seeds: Hungary and Turkey are busy harvesting

BUDAPEST/ANKARA. Already last week the Hungarian farmers started harvesting pharmaceutical poppy seeds. Food grade poppy will follow this week.

Hungarian traders must adapt
The results of the Hungarian poppy seeds harvest to date indicate a good production. The average yield per hectare this year is expected to be 800-900 kg/ha.

Initially, Hungarian traders had set prices for the new crop at EUR 3,80/kg FCA. With the increasing certainty of a good Czech crop, however, the selling pressure is also increasing. The prices for July deliveries of 2019 crop, are now back at 2.00-2.20 EUR/kg FCA Hungary. Hungarian exporters will continue to monitor the market, but will have to follow Czech prices in order to
