Blue poppy seeds: Losses of 20–30% expected

CHRUDIM. The upcoming Czech blue poppy seed crop is under threat of drought. Traders are increasingly exercising caution, withdrawing their offers for both existing and new crop.

Traders withdraw offers
Czech poppy seed farmers report that the southern cultivation areas have been suffering from insufficient precipitation for almost two months now; market participants are afraid of droughts and the first horrendous reports are circulating that 20–30% of the plants are not expected to reach harvest maturity. Farmers are, however, satisfied with their sales so far and are not in a hurry to part from their existing stock at the current prices.
