CHRUDIM. Sowing for the 2019 Czech blue poppy seed crop is almost completed. Even though the areas under cultivation have not been able to meet the expectations of market participants, the prices for new crop are well below the current price level.

Prices for 2019 crop
The Czech poppy seed farmers have sown an estimated 30,000-35,000 ha for this year's crop. Originally, market participants had expected the area to be well over 40,000 ha. When the first small plants can be seen in the fields at the end of April, it will be possible to better estimate the area under cultivation. The farmers should be able to start harvesting at the beginning of August 2019.

Offers for Czech blue poppy seed with less than 10 ppm morphine from the 2019 crop are also becoming more frequent. Prices are at a level of 2.00-2.05 E
