Blue poppy seeds: Prices rise again

CHRUDIM. The last sales conducted without existing long-term contracts date a long while back in the Czech Republic. At present, the prices on offer indicate that the traders are trying to put off buyers rather than finding customers.

 

Driven up by the rise in farmgate prices, blue poppy seeds are currently trading for 4.40 EUR/kg FCA Czech Republic. Traders report that the blue poppy seed market is dead. Currently, only long-term contracts are being fulfilled.

There, however, is some hope that matters will improve as sowing is expected to rise sharply. If the weather is good and there are positive reports about the development of the crop, prices should gradually decline over the next few months. Buyers are nevertheless urged not to be too
