CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The mild weather causes poppy seed farmers in the Czech Republic to already start planning for the 2020 sowing season. Market players reckon that...

... the acreage for the coming season could be larger than last year. According to the official estimates of the Czech Statistical Office, around 24,344 metric tonnes of poppy seeds had been produced on 35,800 ha in 2019. Thanks to last year's comparatively high price level, both farmers and traders have made satisfactory profits. As a result, a further increase in poppy seed cultivation can be expected this year.
