Blue poppy seeds: Promising crops in Eastern Europe

CHRUDIM/BUDAPEST. The high moisture content in the poppy fields in Hungary renders the use of pesticides difficult. Farmers are unable to drive on some of the fields with their heavy machinery.

Up to 4,000 mt in Hungary

All in all, the crop is in a good condition in Hungary and the rainfall in May provided the plants with enough moisture. In some regions, however, the application of pesticides is delayed. Current production estimates range at 3,000-4,000 mt.

Production in Turkey similar to 2018
