CHRUDIM. The Czech Statistical Office has revised this year’s production estimates downwards once again. Traders meanwhile agree that there is no need for panic.

Production declines by 50%
In the current report the Office states that little more than 14,000 mt have been harvested. This equals a decline in production of more than 31% over last year. In addition, this year's poppy seed production is 39% below the 5-year moving average and 51% below the 5-year--high.

Unfavourable weather conditions reduced acreage by 17% to 27,000 ha and the yield of 0.52 mt/ha is also far below the average of 0.80 mt/ha. Previously, the Czech Statistical Office was more optimistic in expecting a yield of 0.56 mt/ha.
