CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The traders in the Czech Republic are unable to compete with their colleagues in Turkey in terms of price. Their hands appear to be tied.

Traders bend over to competition

The poppy market in the Czech Republic has turned sour. With the current price level failing to attract buyers the traders are forced to go down in price. This week, the price for blue poppy seeds from the have already dropped to 4.18 EUR/kg DDP Germany. Excessively large volumes are, however, not available in the free market.

Meanwhile, there are great differences in price in Turkey. Prices vary between 4.35 USD/kg and 4.80 USD/kg FOB Izmir. Traders in Europe are even offering blue poppy seeds for delivery within the next we
