Blue poppy seeds: Traders make first estimates on acreage

CHRUDIM. The offers for Czech blue poppy seeds are becoming increasingly more expensive. Speculators are also fueling the market by generating artificial demand in the hope of driving prices up even higher.

 

Is production to reach 60,000 mt in 2019?

Buyers intending to purchase blue poppy seeds in the Czech Republic currently need to reckon with prices starting at 4.30 EUR/kg FCA Czech Republic. In the absence of alternatives in terms of quality, there are some customers willing to accept these record prices. Most companies are, however, forced to adapt the recipes accordingly. Traders reckon that some of the purchases are being made by speculators aiming to artificially limit supplies even further and to drive up prices.
