Blue poppy seeds: Unofficial production estimates for 2019

CHRUDIM. Due to the rain market players are confident that this year’s production is set to double. Unofficial estimates are afloat, and prices are expected to change drastically.

20,000 mt are possible

Sowing has initially been completed on an estimated 33,000-35,000 ha. The below-average rainfall in spring has, however, left its mark. Market players reckon that 10-15% of the acreage has been affected by drought. Fortunately, the regular rain showers over the last few weeks have eased the situation somewhat. Risks should, however, still be factored in.
