Buckwheat: China struggles with cheap imports

DALIAN/BRUSSELS. Buckwheat supplies may be low in China, but cheap imports have changed the situation. Sowing is progessing in Ukraine. EU imports have risen sharply.

Sowing 75% complete in Ukraine

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy via APK Inform farmers have sown 5.5 million ha of spring cereals and leguminous crops in Ukraine as of 29 May. This amounts to 97%  of the forcasted area of 5.68 million ha. At 66,000 ha buckwheat sowing is 75% complete. As of 30 May last year, almost 5.5 million ha of spring crops had been sown in Ukraine, amounting to 98% of the area planned (5.6 million ha).
