Buckwheat: cultivation decline in Ukraine

KYIV/DALIAN. In Ukraine, sowing is well behind last year’s figures. Imports are stabilising prices on the Chinese market. EU imports have more than doubled this season.

43% smaller acreage in Ukraine

Ukrainian farmers have now completed 94% of sowing for this year’s cereal and pulses crop. So far, 37,600 ha have been sown with buckwheat; according to current figures, the planned acreage is 56,800 ha. This would represent a significant decline in cultivation. At this time last year, 66,000 ha had already been sown, which corresponded to just 75% of the planned sowing.
