Buckwheat: cultivation development under close observation

DALIAN/KYIV. Chinese market players are keeping an eye on sowing for the coming crop. In Ukraine, lower acreages are expected from the outset.

Focus on the new crop

Chinese market players are focussing on the planting dates for the coming buckwheat season. High imports have put pressure on prices in the domestic market in recent months, but apart from slight fluctuations, supplies have now stabilised for the time being. Prices for hulled buckwheat are currently at USD 750/mt FOB Dalian and organic buckwheat is quoted at a level of USD 820/mt FOB.

According to the Ukrainian Minister for Agricultural Policy and Food, 86,800 hectares are to be sown with buckwheat in Ukraine this year. Last year, 89,00
