Buckwheat: Poland halves imports from third countries

KYIV/DALIAN. Ukrainian buckwheat farmers have significantly accelerated their sowing compared to the same period last year. Prices on the Chinese market are expected to stabilise for the time being following the recent downward corrections.

Ukraine with a sowing lead of +170%

Ukrainian farmers have so far sown 2.001 million hectares with spring crops, compared to 2.546 million hectares this time last year. A total of around 5.681 million hectares are to be sown with grains and pulses for the 2025/2026 season. Compared to other crops, the sowing of buckwheat is progressing much faster this year. So far, 1,900 hectares have been sown, which is 2% of the planned area. By contrast, this time last year Ukrainian farmers had only sown 700 ha of the planned 124,800 ha with buckwheat.
