BEIJING/KYIV. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture's data, significantly more buckwheat was harvested in 2022 than in the previous two years. Germany has increased its imports from Poland. Meanwhile, there is a lack of demand in the Chinese market.

Pressure due to imports

Prices for Chinese buckwheat have largely stabilised. Domestic demand is moderate and trading activity is low. Additional imports from European growing countries could put further pressure on prices. Hulled buckwheat is currently offered at export prices of USD 1,140/mt FOB Dalian, with offers for organic quality at USD 1,210/mt FOB Dalian.

In Ukraine, the buckwheat harvest is still not completely finished, with 115,000 ha harvested so far, which corresponds to 98% of the cultivated area, according to data from the Ukrainian Ministry
