Cashews: raw cashew production to triple in Tanzania

DODOMA/HANOI. Although the government of Tanzania faced huge problems finding buyers for domestic cashew kernels last year, there are great plans for the years to come.

One million to be cultivated

According to Japhet Hasunga, Minister of Agriculture, the cultivation of cashew trees is to be promoted nationwide. The aim is to cultivate cashew nuts in at least 17 of the 30 provinces. At this point, only five of them have done so. Within the next four to five years, production is to be more than tripled to about 1 million metric tonnes.
