Cashews: Vietnam struggles with high prices

NEW DELHI/HO CHI MINH. Ghana has not issued an export ban for cashews. Logistical challenges are restricting trade flows in Nigeria. In Vietnam, RCN prices are too high to handle. Low kernel prices have forced processors to close in India.

No export ban in Ghana

Although the year started with good crop flowering in Ghana, early rains damaged nut quality in central regions. Fortunately, drier weather later improved the quality in western areas such as Drobo and Sampa. Farmgate prices initially ranged at GHS 7-13/kg (USD 0.60-1.11/kg) as the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) tightened quality inspections and curbed illegal trade to support local processing.
