Chickpeas: Canada and USA must adjust trade strategies

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. The Indian chickpea market remains under severe pressure and prices have fallen further. The threat of US tariffs on Canadian goods is likely to pose major challenges for both countries.

Pressure is increasing

The chickpea market remains sluggish as new supplies from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka add to the supply pressure. Traders, who had been slow to release older stocks, are now forced to sell at lower prices to make room for new supplies. As the pace of harvest will pick up in the coming weeks, the pressure may increase further.
