Chickpeas: Canadian exporters are looking for buyers

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. With the US set to harvest a large chickpea crop, there is less demand for imports from Canada. Exporters there will therefore have to expand their customer base. Prices continue to decline in India.

Cooler temperatures are necessary

As expected, prices on the Indian chickpea market have fallen again compared to last week. The large stocks and high production are exerting considerable pressure. Farmers are currently busy preparing for the new crop, which is expected to be available in February 2025. Prices had risen by USD 0.23-0.24/kg after the government lifted the stock limit in August, but have since fallen again by USD 0.17-0.18/kg due to oversupply and low demand.
